Project: The Giving Voice to Mothers Study: Speaking Truth about Respect and Racism

Applicant Organization: Home Birth Summit Consumer Task Force

The Giving Voice to Mothers study has collected new information on how experience of maternity care in the US is affected by race, ethnicity, and planned place of birth. We now have evidence that persons from communities of color and low income families experience significantly more disrespect and institutional racism. They are more likely to report that they were pushed into accepting non-consented care. We can also show that type of provider and planned place of birth lead to large differences in experiences of autonomy and respect. A FAM grant will allow us to support the people most affected to direct how we report the findings, and who should hear the stories. Please help us to create a broad dissemination strategy to tell policy makers and clinicians the truth about person-centered maternity care.
